Is it right for you?
Cabana is a 10 floor former hotel, turned into apartments and new in 2026. It keeps the hotel's old pool and sun shades, and has two story homes and penthouses with rooftop balconies. It sits on the Stemmons Freeway frontage, so most errands start in a car. Reviews are few and new. We'd tour it for the building itself, the terrazzo and the concrete screen, and go in knowing the nearest coffee is a 20 minute walk.
A good fit if
- You want a building with a story: a 1962 hotel on the National Register, with original terrazzo kept
- You'd like a two story home or a penthouse with a rooftop balcony facing downtown
- You want quick freeway access to the Design District, Victory Park and downtown

Is Cabana Design District the old Cabana Hotel?
Yes. Caesars Palace founder Jay Sarno built the Cabana Hotel, which opened in 1962. It was later a Dallas County jail and then sat empty for more than a decade, Realty News Report wrote in May 2026. Sycamore Development bought it in 2023 and turned it into 175 apartments, keeping the pool and its sun shades. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Are some homes income restricted?
Yes. 70 of the 175 homes are income and rent restricted under a 2023 state housing tax credit award. They're for households earning 30% to 80% of the area median income. The other 105 rent at market rates, according to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. We check which homes are open in each group.
What fees come on top of rent?
The property hasn't published a fee sheet. Its amenities page lists valet trash, and pets are $400 each up front and $25 a month, with up to two dogs and two cats. Parking is in an on site garage, price not listed. We ask for the full fee list before you tour.
