Lone Star Gas Lofts

A 13 floor Art Deco tower from 1931, part of the old Lone Star Gas block on the east side of downtown. Hamilton Properties turned it into lofts. The 1931 lobby is still there, the homes have concrete floors, and the pool deck and garage are shared with the rest of the block.

Is it right for you?

Lone Star Gas Lofts is a restored 1931 Art Deco tower near Main Street Garden and the Farmers Market. It's often one of the lower priced towers downtown. Reviews like the office staff, the views and the building's character. The complaints: fire alarms at night, guest towing in the earlier years, and old windows that let heat and cold through.

A good fit if

  • You want a real Art Deco landmark: a 1931 Lang and Witchell tower with its original lobby
  • You want parks close by: Main Street Garden Park is about 3 minutes away and Harwood Park about 5
  • You like loft finishes: polished concrete floors, granite counters and a washer and dryer in every home

Maybe not if

  • You need steady temperatures: the historic windows let in heat and cold and the AC can't keep up, 2019 and 2023 residents wrote
  • You want quiet nights: reviews from 2017 to 2023 describe fire alarms going off in the middle of the night
  • You want newer amenities: residents call the pool small and the gym basic

City code reports rising

Dallas 311 logged 21 code concerns at 300 S St Paul St in 2026 through September, up from 1 to 7 a year before. The city doesn't publish what they were about.

Old windows and AC

Residents wrote in 2019 and 2023 that the AC couldn't keep up in summer and the historic windows let heat and cold in. A 2015 resident's AC broke a week after they moved in.

Noise: active

The street scores 69 out of 100 (higher is quieter), mostly from traffic. Residents describe late night fire alarms, and a 2019 review says the historic windows keep out little street noise.

Flood risk: low

FEMA puts this address outside its high risk flood area. Renters insurance doesn't cover floods, cars in the garage included.

Police reports

Questions people ask about Lone Star Gas Lofts

What fees come on top of rent?

The property doesn't publish a fee sheet. Apartments.com, checked in October 2026, says its listed prices include required monthly fees: $83 on some homes and $162 on others. It doesn't name them, so we get the breakdown from the office for the home you want. The listing text gives a $50 application fee, a $100 admin fee and a deposit from $500, and renters insurance is required. Garage parking costs extra, and we found no current price.

Is any of the building income restricted?

Some homes are. Zillow's listing says homes labeled TIF are leased under a City of Dallas program for households at 80% of area income. An earlier phase, in the block's 1970s office building, was built as more affordable housing. Market rate homes are mixed in, and we tell you which is which when we build your list.

Do the fire alarms really go off at night?

They have. Reviews from 2017, 2019 and 2023 describe alarms in the middle of the night, one counting five in four months. A 2017 resident wrote they took a long time to shut off, and another 2017 review counted about three late night alarms in 15 months. We ask the office about recent alarms before your tour.

Where do guests park?

There's a free guest lot on Jackson Street with a 2 hour limit, and listings mention online guest passes for up to 72 hours. Reviews from 2015 to 2017 describe guests towed past the limit, so have your guests use the passes.

Does Lone Star Gas Lofts allow pets?

Yes, cats and dogs. Listings show a $150 refundable pet deposit, breed limits but no weight limit, and up to three of each. Main Street Garden Park's dog run is about three minutes away.

Who owns Lone Star Gas Lofts?

Hamilton Properties, which restored the block with Central Dallas CDC after Forest City handed it over. It turned the 1924 and 1931 landmark buildings into 123 apartments, part of 230 lofts on the block. We found no sale. The same leasing agent, Jonathan, is named in reviews from 2018 to 2026.
